Using the movable DO system of solfege, participants are guided both vocally and instrumentally through several ‘study concepts’ that combine ear training and elements of jazz improvisation. The study concepts, fully explained in the text Performance Ear Training, were designed to aid the student develop a physical response to the sounds that he hears and can be applied to virtually all exercises. They include: Movable DO, The Sing Then Play Technique, Inner Hearing, Harmonic Basslines, Tendency Tone Exercises, The Straight Line Exercise, Cycle of Fourths Interval Exercises, Tonal Tensions, Tension Melodies, Guidetone Lines, Phrase Transposition, Phrase Superimposition.
