Ambidextrous crossover artist and National Endowment for the Arts grantee Donovan Mixon, is a self described citizen of the world. He presently lives in Chicago performing in clubs, concert halls and festivals with his World Jazz Quintet as well with the GBME - Great Black Music Ensemble of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) of which he is a recent inductee.
He is also the curator of his concert series: "Donovan's Garage", a performance laboratory in which artists collaborate live on stage to execute spontaneous improvisations of known and original compositions. As a result, the audience is allowed to peek behind the curtain of the creative process in which musicians engage .
Mr. Mixon is the creator of Performance Ear Training, an aural skills method thoroughly outlined in his critically acclaimed text published by Advance Music. Performance Ear Training teaches students how to practice ear training through a set of flexible and creative Study Concepts. Teachers will understand that these concepts can be infused in creative ways throughout their own music lessons and will be inspired to create routines that elevate the musicianship of their students.
